Monday the kids were off from school for a teacher inservice day. We decided to go for a hike up at Red Rock National Park which is about a ten minute drive from our house. It is so beautiful up there. We went with our friends the Skouson's and the Waid's. Since there were a few small children along for the hike, we chose to hike at Pine Creek instead of our usual jaunt on the red boulders. The last time we went to Red Rock, Tanner about gave me heart failure many times! Although he is only four, he sometimes (well, most times) thinks he is MUCH older and capable of big boy feats! He thought nothing of following his big brothers up the side of the cliff or peering over the edge. I can't tell you how many times my heart stopped that day. Anyway, Monday we decided to be a little more mellow. This was the drive into the park.

This was on the way down. It didn't look very steep going down. However, on the way back up it proved to be a bit of an incline. At least we got a good workout.
A little way into the hike there are these big trees and a stream. When we went there in February, the water was flowing quite a bit. It has slowed down now, but the kids enjoyed skipping rocks and they even found a frog! Poor frog....I think he was very traumatized by all of these kids chasing it around its pond.
Here are some pretty desert flowers that were in bloom.
